Cases / Logistics and shipping
A data-integration platform for the world's largest shipping organisation, built on Azure
Data modelling, data analysis and the full data-integration flow and central database for a next-generation application and capacity management programme.

- Data modelling, data analysis, data-integration development and the central database
The challenge
The world’s largest shipping organisation ran a next-generation application and capacity management programme. It needed its data integrated into one central database that the new applications could rely on.
What we built
We delivered the data modelling, the data analysis and the development of the full data-integration flow and the central database.
- Three integration architectures: batch, event-driven and hybrid.
- Azure only: Azure Data Factory for orchestration and loading, Event Hubs for events, Azure Data Lake and Blob Storage for storage, Azure Databricks for processing, and Azure SQL for the central database.
How we would build it today
The same patterns, with more of the platform managed for you. Microsoft Fabric or Databricks with Delta tables would combine the lake and the central store into one lakehouse, and streaming tables would make the event-driven and batch paths look the same to the teams using the data. Capacity data of this kind is also a strong base for forecasting models, which could run on the same platform.
